DR. OLAWOYE OLANIRAN APPOINTMENT AS THE RECTOR , OSUN STATE POLYTECHNIC, IREE IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

In the continuation of my war against indiscipline, impunity, corruption and illegalities in Osun state owned tertiary institutions, it is the turn of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree that my search light will beam on today for now.
The Illegal appointment of incumbent Rector, Dr. Olawoye Olaniran will be critically looked into and reasons why governor Oyetola should stop the illegal elongation of the Rector's tenure, which officially, is expected to end in few days time will be enumerated.

Dr Woye Olaniran became the acting Rector of Ospoly, Iree in July 1, 2019 following the expiration of his predecessor's tenure,
Dr. Jacob Olusola Agboola. Dr Woye Olaniran was 64 years of age then which means he was left with a year to retire from service when he was appointed as Acting Rector. 

After 6 months in acting capacity, he was confirmed as 5th substantive Rector of the institution for a period of 6 months because of people's agitation and public outcry on his agè which lapsed in 2020 when he clocked 65 years (i.e retirement age).

 After retirement, Dr Woye Olaniran was further reappointed as Substantive Rector of Ospoly, Iree on March 27th, 2020 for a period of 2 years which is alien to all extant laws and the Edit of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, 1992 that established the Institution from inception. It was obvious that government failed to follow due process as clearly stated in the Polytechnic Act. 

There were no advertisements, no interviews and no shortlisted candidates as specified in the Polytechnic Act.

Lest I forget, Dr. Woye Olaniran was a secondary mate to Governor Gboyega Oyetola in Ifeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo and his room-mate at University of Lagos, Akoka ( apology to our iconic Afro Beat, Late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, "Na paddy, paddy government dem dey run").

In the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Edit of 1992 that established the institution, it was clearly stated in PART IV that; "Rector shall be appointed by the Council subject to the approval of the State Governor and shall hold office for a term of four years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term of four years"

Dr Woye Olaniran has just 6moths in service when Governor Gboyega Oyetola appointed him as Substantive Rector in 2019 despite the fact that the appointment was nothing but impunity and gross abuse of extant laws, rules and regulations of the Polytechnic, Iree because he had less than four years in service as at the time he was initially appointed. 

Mr Governor re-appointed him for a second term of two years in 2020 (Administrator or Political Appointee?) without considering his age and the Polytechnic Act. 

No wonder, the National Board For Technical Education(NABTEB) in a recent circular dated 17th May, 2022 warned every State Polytechnic to adhere to the State laws. NABTED also vowed to sanction any institution found to have flouted the provisions of the law.

As two years term of Dr Olaniran will expire on 20th June, 2022, it is expected that the process of replacing him would have commenced in earnest and His Excellency, Governor Gboyega Oyetola will correct this anomaly which he committed in the past which Osun people view as a mistake on his part.

On this particular matter we hope the governor will immediately begin to set the records of a good legacy in the appointment of a new flawless personality as the new Rector for OSPOLY, Iree amidst many qualified and younger academics in the institution instead of recycling an aged personality.

Leaked information can lead to significant reputational harm. Increasingly, the machinery of government in Nigeria seems to be finding it difficult to protect the confidentiality of information used in policymaking and administration. Apparently in a bid to tackle the menace, government at all levels is expected to issue a memo warning any officer caught engaging in such unbecoming act. Professor Durodoye Appeals For Peace In Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun & Ilobu

Raifu Oyewole Durodoye a professor of mathematics at Dallas College, Dallas, Texas, United States of America and illustrious son of Osogbo has appealed For Peace In Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun & Ilobu. The Chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC, expressed deep sympathy to residents of Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun, and Ilobu communities over the recurring communal conflict in that part of Osun State.
