GROUP CALL ON GOVERNOR ADELEKE TO DESIST FROM EXTENDING SERVICE YEAR OF CIVIL SERVANTS WHO ARE DUE FOR RETIREMENT

A group under the auspices of Osun Concerned Elites has called on Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to as a matter of urgency direct Head of Service (HOS) in the State, Mr Samuel Ayanleye Aina and Accountant-General(AG), Mr Rasheed Olalere ALABI to commence processes that will lead to their retirement from Civil Service as the duo will clock 60 years by January and March, 2024 respectively.

The group while addressing the press in Osogbo on Monday said "as a group, we urge Osun State Government to take decisive action to address the rot in the Civil Service and specifically, to stop this corruptive influence from festering. The government must ensure that civil servants who have reached the mandatory retirement age or length of service are retired promptly".

In a statement titled "Civil Servants And The Scare Of Retirement" the group spokesman Comrade Babasola Alaarape said;
"There are reports that some civil servants, especially the HOS and AG, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 60 years but are unwilling to retire, are bent on manipulating the system to stay on in service".
"The action of these two Senior Officers and whoever fall into their category should not be condoned for the main reason that it is a corrupt practice that is obstructing the employment of eligible young applicants. It is obvious that they are more concerned with their personal interests than the interest of the State. They will also be preventing the chances of injecting new blood and new ideas into the civil service, which will be counter productive for the system. Mr Governor should not support or accept this".

   It should be noted that during the 12 years of All Progressive Congress (APC) reign in the State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a political party criticized extension of service years granted some senior civil servants. This among others, were some of the issues Governor Adeleke promised the civil servants that will be corrected during the 2022 governorship election campaign. It is now important to call and remind Mr Governor to stand by his word.
 Those at the center of the matter i.e HOS and AG shouldn't see this as witch-hunting but an effort to correct some of the inadequacies in the Civil Service. Osun State is our joint heritage, and we don't want to keep our fingers crossed observing this type of great abnormality rearing its head again.

His Excellency should know that the act of service extension by any category of Civil Servants is self serving and a clear violation of the principles of fairness and equity which this government stands for.

 As a group, we are concerned that the Osun Civil Service, which has long been plagued by nepotism, and other forms of malfeasance, is ingeniously devising other methods of rendering the service ineffective. In our considered opinion, Osun State government must take decisive action to address this issue and ensure that civil servants who have reached the mandatory retirement age did not stay a day longer.

"In the words of a businessman, Mr Chinedu Emmanuel, he described civil servants who failed to bow out honorably after attaining retirement age as enemies of progress. Most workers in this category are not doing so because of the love they have for the job, but because they are greedy. There is no reason why someone who is 60 years of age or have spent 35 years in service should not resign voluntarily in compliance with the extant rules they sworn to protect. "The same parents who refused to leave for fresh blood to be injected into the civil service are the one crying that their children are not employed.”

   In the same vain, The group is calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke to desist from Edenization of the Civil Service as the rumor is flying around the State that the Governor and his kitchen cabinet from Ede are seriously looking for indigenes of Ede to replace the Head of Service and the Accountant General if the extension ploy failed. The whole idea is a coverup attempt which will boomerang if executed.

  The whole State voted for Governor Adeleke and dividends of democracy should be made to cut across the State. The kind of development Ede is witnessing under this Government must surface in every other part of the state.

Mr Governor! We are keenly watching your administration. You will succeed if you listen to and execute golden advice. Time is ticking!
